FAQs

What is Statue Gold Painted Face?

Gold face paint is a process of applying a particular gold variation for painting the face of a statue, which has been treated in such a way that the metal gold has been transformed into a paintable powder gold. It is claimed that this is 100% pure gold.
The main purpose to paint the statue's face with gold is to define important attributes of the face especially its eyes opening and Its lips. This is generally impossible to achieve by metal carving. Even if we could, oxidation would blur it away over time. This is a significant and sacred Buddhist rite that prepares the statue for dedication and practice.
The statue with a painted face is usually covered with a cotton face mask and placed under a glass box to preserve it from harm. It is strongly suggested that the face of the statue be well cared for, as it requires a highly experienced and professional face artist to clean and repair the face of dirt and damage.
Heruka (Sanskrit; Tibetan: khrag 'thung) is the name of a group of wrathful deities in Vajrayana Buddhism who adopt a ferocious demeanor in order to aid sentient beings. Herukas are the personification of indivisible ecstasy and emptiness.
